A wannabe NFL player may have just broken a world record at the Combine

12′ 3″ is a very, very long way to jump.

IF AMERICAN FOOTBALL and the NFL doesn’t work out for Connecticut’s Byron Jones, he could always try his hand at track and field, particularly the long jump.

Today, during the final day of the NFL Scouting Combine, Jones popped a standing broad jump of 12′ 3″ (3.73m).

The standing long jump is a former Olympic sport with the world record — set by Norwegian Arne Tvervaag in 1968 – officially 3.71m, a mark Jones has just surpassed.

Jones started seven games last season before suffering a torn labrum in his shoulder in late October that required surgery to repair and whether or not it will impact on his draft stock remains unclear.
